For teens and adults, talking about sex isn’t always easy - but it may be the most important conversation they ever have. Young people often rely on their peers for this important information, but they need to learn about sexual health, relationships, and values from their parents or another responsible adult. This website offers tools and resources to help you learn the facts, whether you’re a teen or parent, and start that conversation.
PATHS stands for Promoting Awareness of Teen Health and Sexuality, and is a coalition of community members from agencies in Chatham, Bryan, Effingham and surrounding counties in coastal Georgia. Individually, some of these agencies promote different methods, but collectively our goal is the same: help our young people learn the facts so they can make informed, healthy choices. Click here for links to some of the agencies involved in PATHS.
The group’s latest initiative is the creation of a DVD, which you can now view on the video section of this website. The DVD has 4 chapters - an introduction, a chapter for teens, one for adults, and a final chapter featuring statistics to underscore the importance of learning the facts about sex. You can also request a free copy of the DVD from this site.
We hope you’ll take time to watch, and send the link to your friends and family so they can share the message too. We believe this is crucial, because having the wrong information about sex can be deadly. There are about 19 million new STD infections in the U.S. every year, and almost half are among youth ages 15-24. About 820,000 young women in the U.S. become pregnant before their 20th birthdays.
In addition to the video, this site also provides links to other websites to help you research the topics and learn more ways to open that important dialogue about sexual health. Thanks for visiting this site, and doing your part to keep our young people on the right paths.
